Chelsea have had their transfer ban lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after reaching an agreement with Lens over the signing of Gael Kakuta.

A statement on the CAS website said that the two clubs and the player had accepted the player's contract with the French side was not valid.

Thus Kakuta could not have terminated it prematurely, so Chelsea could not be liable for inducing it to be breached.

Shame I would have been genuinely interested in seeing how Chelsea would have done not signing anyone - when it was first announced everyone was saying they would struggle with an ageing squad, but they still had the quality in place and although the squad is slightly old its not as if half of it would have reached retirement age

I wondering why it has taken this long to relise that his contract at Lens was not valid. Surely it is not that difficult to see a contract that is signed by the player and club or not. This has left the reputation of Chelsea in tatters.
But Chelsea have paided Lens an extra amount believed to be around £3million. This could be seen as a pay off, so that Chelsea would have the transfer ban. Either way, contract laws are complicated and i expect to see many more cases such as this, come to the public's attention in the future.

I think this leaves FIFA's reputation in tatters if anything. We all knew this would be the outcome. FIFA and UEFA have spent the last year coming down hard on things like this, i.e tapping up and diving, yet nothing has stuck. Whats the point?

I think the problem came becuase Youngsters aren't protected as much as they over hear - They sort of agree a contract to a agree a future contract almost and I think there were issues surrounding the validity of that orginal agreement. It is probably a grey area and has been settled by Chelsea paying a fair compensation for the player
